ABOUT THE TAVERNACLE
The Tavernacle Social Club opened its doors for business officially on February
1, 2002. Just one week later, Salt Lake City welcomed the world during the Winter
Olypmic Games. During that special time, the club saw people from all over the
world. One particular night, a group of Russian visitors joined us and at one
point took the stage for an incredible performance of the Russian Cossack Dance.
A woman played the piano while several men joined arms in the dance. Since then
we've hosted a variety of parties and even political rallies. We are not, however,
a political club. Everyone is invited so please check your politics at the door.
The Tavernacle is a completely non-smoking club,
and we've been known to publicly humiliate those who forget this rule. Smoking
is allowed in front of the club, and we provide a heater during colder months.
The Dueling Piano Show
For those of you unfamiliar with this wild form of entertainment, here are some
basic guidelines. The setup is simply two pianos facing each other, and two
piano players either swapping songs back and forth - or playing together. Our
show is "all-request". This means that the entertainment is driven
by you... the audience. Tips are appreciated, and also become part of the show.
Since we strive to provide only the finest entertainment, occasionally we may
be requested to play music you do not care for. In these instances, a simple
increase in tip will shut down a song you don't like. For example, a song requested
for two dollars may be immediately stopped for three dollars. Get it? (By the
way, if it was your song - you can start it back up again using the same increase
in tip method.)
Also required for maximum entertainment potential - is singing. Our audience
participation always includes singing along. We even love those monotone folks
who can't carry a tune to sing. They always add an interesting harmony.
Birthdays/Bachelor/Bachelorette/Divorce/Anniversary/Promotion/Graduation/etc.
PARTIES
The Tavernacle is the ideal place to celebrate just about any event you can
think of. We are known for getting the special birthday guest/bachelorette/gratuate/etc.
up on top of the pianos for a special dance or bit. Bring your cameras - lifetime
memories happen here.
A word about the content of our show
Now a word of caution. Very often the content of our show becomes R rated. We
like to encourage everyone to come to the Tavernacle, but be warned that the
language resonating in our walls would probably not be allowed on the Salt Lake
Main Street Plaza. Let's just say adult themes are common. But don't worry,
we won't tell anyone from your church that you came in and joined in the fun.
Since the Tavernacle is a social club and alcohol is served - we encourage ANYONE who has had too much to drink to ask your server or bartender to please call a cab for you. We'll be happy to as we want everyone to get home safe. We want to see you all again.
